Discussion subscriptions are live
I've just deployed the ability to subscribe to a discussion and get notified by email when a reply is posted.
How this works currently:
- If you're following a discussion, you'll receive an email every time a new post is added. The link in the email pings you over directly to the new post for convenience.
- You won't receive notifications for sub-replies (replies to replies) unless you're participating within those replies. This is to avoid being notified too many times.
- A new filter has been added to the forum navigation to track discussions you're subscribed to, so you can easily manage these.
I realise that an email per reply may get overwhelming if you have quite a few subscriptions, so I'm considering an off-email notification section or a summary email sent with updates. I'll keep you posted.

Currently, does it really send an email if someone tags me in their post / comment / sub-comment?
It doesn't email for tagging yet. This will be a notification type though. Do you think an email every time someone is tagged is too much, or could this be worked into the 'daily/half daily' summary?
@alex I personally don't think it's a good idea to notify users via email in every tag.
Instead, I think it would be a better trade-off if you can add a notification bubble in the forum somewhere which is easily noticeable.
What do you think?
Yeah, I’ll either try and work these into the global user notifications or create a separate forum notification section.
