Because we are charging the user in the client side, we're going to need to handle any errors that we get back from Stripe on the client side. Now, we're just going to implement a very, very basic check to flash a message for any errors we get.
00:16
But of course, you're going to want to go through and look at all of the test cards and test all of the different scenarios. We're just going to be looking at one here, which is card declined. So, let's go ahead and search for that and find a charges declined with card declined code type. So, I'm going to go ahead and copy this card number here, and I've already added a product to our cart, and we're going to go ahead and test this.
00:41
So, let's go down and enter this card number, fill in with any of this information, it doesn't really matter what we put in here, and let's hit confirm order and pay. I'm going to go ahead and open up the console. We're not logging any of these errors out yet, but this is just not going to do anything. We get a 402 back from Stripe, but we're not actually making use of them errors.
01:03
So, if we just go over to checkout.blade.php, this is where we want to go ahead and show an error. Now, we can do this in any way you want. You could attach it to the form if you want. What we're going to be doing, though, is a very similar thing that we did over in our notification component earlier,
01:22
where we dispatched the custom event here for notification over on the window with the detail and the timeout, and that basically then go through and go ahead and show this within that notification component. So, we're going to go ahead and do exactly that, and in the body here, we're going to just give the message that we get back from the error,
01:43
and of course, we can set a slightly longer timeout here if we want to. But once again, you can do pretty much anything you want in here. Let's go over and just give this page a refresh, and let's try this again. So, we can close our console off now.
01:57
Let's use that same test card number. So, let's grab that from here. That's card declined, and let's paste that in. And again, just enter any information in here.
02:07
It doesn't matter at all. Hit confirm, order, and pay. And once that payment goes through, you can see your card was declined. So, we're showing it up here, but like I said, you can pretty much do that anywhere you want.
02:20
Now, the great thing about the test card numbers is we can test things like 3D secure as well, which is pretty important. So, let's go and just use one of these. So, let's use 3D secure here, and let's go ahead and enter this, and hit confirm, order, and pay.
02:41
And what's going to happen now is this is on the client side, going to present us with a 3D secure dialogue, where we would have to verify this via our phone or some other method. And then we can go ahead and hit complete authentication.
02:54
What that is then going to do is then process the payment. Now, of course, at the moment, it doesn't really look like anything is happening on the checkout page. We're going to implement that spinner a little bit later. But for now, you can go through your test card numbers and just check everything is working nicely.
